Taekwondo Techniques Kicks

Kicks - Chagi

The initial movement in the case of the three main kicking variants, Front Kick (Ap Chagi), Side Kick (Yop Chagi) and Turning Kick (Dollyo Chagi) is the same; the knee of the kicking leg is raised in a straight line without straightening the leg. In the case of Dollyo Chagi the standing foot is then allowed to pivot to allow the hips to rotate bringing the leg round in a circular motion. The kicking leg should not be allowed to pass beyond the centre line of the body before recovery. When executing Yop Chagi the body should form a Y shape and it is important that the upper body is not falling backwards (away from the target) or to the side. This allows proper weight transference into the kick.

Full details of the tae kwon do kicks are available on the Unify Taekwondo Techniques DVD.
